Public Lecture Series 3

On Tuesday, 6 June 2017, Prof. Ronald Holzhacker, from the University of Groningen, the Netherlands, provided the Public Lecture Series 3 on “Human Rights, International and Regional Norm Diffusion”. The lecture focused on the range of actors that are involved in the discussion on human rights, including civil society organizations, universities, national human rights institutions, the media, and courts. This lecture also introduced the concept of the ‘ricochet’ process in which different kind of societal actors and institutions are involved in exchanging information and political and legal arguments in a consensus building process, which may lead to concrete developments in the area of human rights law. It stressed the role of the process both internationally, and among regional peers, for example in member states of the EU or ASEAN.
