On Monday, 23 December 2019, CSHL in collaboration with the Handa Center, and with the generous support of the British Embassy in Cambodia, organized the “Women in the Law: Community of Practice (CoP) Concluding Event”. This event was held with the purpose of giving participants of the CoP who have been through four-month of research training to present and showcase their research findings on various pressing women topics such as (1) Female representative in the management of higher education, (2) Female law students pursuing legal study and career field, (3) Domestic violence against women, (4) Sexual violence against women, (5) Cambodian female migrant working in construction sector in Thailand and (6) Rural female students pursuing higher education. Two of six female students under the Female Student Internship Placement Program also had the opportunity to share their personal views on challenges faced by female law students in pursuing legal profession.
Furthermore, this event was made even more meaningful with the presence of H.E. Ms. Tina S. Redshaw, Ambassador of the British Embassy in Cambodia to give the opening remarks and Ms. Margaret Ryan, Director of English Language Based Bachelor of Law Program at RULE who gave the keynote speech about her lifelong support for female students in pursuing higher education in Cambodia.
Following the keynote speech, the participants of the event had the chance to hear from a panel of leading female legal professionals from the Bar Association of the Kingdom of Cambodia and law firms who share their opinions and experiences in pursuing and practicing legal profession in Cambodia.
